Introducing Marshall

Time heals they say. The loss of our dear friend Brandy in the spring of 2023 has been difficult to move on from. There is something in our home that is missing, there is a piece missing that is needed to complete our home. Brandy was an important part of our family, that we could never replace.

Slowly we started looking at rescue dogs needing a forever home. You question if it is too soon, if you are ready for the commitment again. There is a little pang of guilt, moving on from a friend that was by your side for 16 years. The decision was made, a puppy rescue adoption. A little girl called Shortbread had caught our attention.

Now that we have found the puppy we want, it was time to start the adoption application process. Arranging for references and filling out forms. That was when we received a call from a friend in need. As has happens to so many, unexpected and necessary life changes result in hard decisions. She needed to find a new home for her fur baby, Marshall, a three year old Rottweiler Boxer cross. Knowing we were looking to adopt, she asked if we would be interested. We already knew Marshall, he had been to our home a few times and recently came for a visit while Mom was at work.

This was a decision the family would have to make together. There was plenty to consider, not the least would be how difficult the adoption would be on Marshall and his Mom. Connecting with Marshall, that’s easy. Marshall having to be separated from his Mom and her from him that was going to be difficult on them. The decision to accept the offer to take Marshall into our home didn’t take very long. Marshall invited you into his space and he made you want to be there with him, he was deserving of a home. We were pleased to be able to help Marshall and his Mom find that home.

Now, a plan to transition Marshall to his new home. Starting with a couple of day visits. This gave everyone time to interact, get in some walks and experience sharing space together. Next, a sleep over, will he be comfortable enough to sleep in his new home? With his kennel set up, his favourite place to sleep, he slept through the night. We were pleased to see that Shortbread found a forever home of her own.

Surrounded by his favourite toys, Marshall is fitting in to his new home nicely. We are all finding our way to accept new changes. Marshall is very laid back and friendly and oh so affectionate. There will never be another Brandy and we already know this is a one and only Marshall.

Marshall thinks he is a lap dog.

  1. How old is Marshall ? I like his coat colors, and expression. He looks like a fun, wanna be in charge dog.
